Krystal Lake, the now-infamous Home Depot employee who was caught on camera with a hat that reads “America Was Never Great,” is a bit confused as to why it has become viral. She, however, says she won’t stop wearing it, because apparently she and the other leftists out there supporting her have decided it’s just meant to troll Trump.

Lake, who is a Bernie Sanders supporter, said she’d wear the hat again despite offending Trump supporters. ”Trump is very rash and in your face, but when someone else has a message against him, his supporters can’t take the criticisms,” Lake said.

Lake said she’s been inundated with racist messages and death threats. “People have been saying really racist things to me and that they’re going to come and find me and that what I said is disgraceful and I hate America—but I don’t hate America.”

“The point of the hat was to say America needs changing and improvement. I don’t think it’s a positive message to say, let’s look to the past,” she said, insisting she knows “there are a lot of opportunities here.”

“I just wish we would worry about making America better—not ‘great’ again.” she said.

I’m no Trump fan, mind you, but the message that “America Was Never Great” isn’t simply an attack on his campaign – it’s a message from a leftist ideology that sees America as the worst thing that has ever happened to the world and that the world would be better off if we had never rebelled against Great Britain some centuries back.

America has its historical flaws, sure, but there are many good things to come out of America. Donald Trump’s campaign and an increasingly visible segment of his voting base are abhorrent creatures who should be returned to the netherworld from whence they came, but the idea that “America Was Never Great” isn’t one that simply offends them. It is one that should (and does) offend every day Americans who believe that there was something good about this country once.
